Siloam Springs, Ark. (July 18, 2011) - The National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that nine JBU athletic teams have been named to the NAIA’s Scholar Team list for their work in the classroom during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Women’s tennis (3.48 GPA) led the way for the Golden Eagles followed by men's cross country (3.32), men’s tennis (3.23), men’s golf (3.16), women’s soccer (3.15), women’s cross country (3.12), women’s basketball (3.11), volleyball (3.09), and men’s basketball (3.02).
A record total of 934 teams across the nation, an increase over last year’s total of 857, received the award this year. The Lee (Tenn.) women’s golf team finished in the top spot with a 3.86 GPA.
For a team to be considered an NAIA Scholar Team, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity athletes certified as eligible.
