SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Sophomore Aspen Robinson added a pair of goals for the second consecutive game, and the John Brown University women's soccer team overcame a quick counterstrike to pick up a 2-1 win over Bellevue (Neb.) on Friday (Aug. 26) evening at Alumni Field.

With the win, John Brown (2-0-0) moves to 2-0-0 all-time against the Bruins and stretch its current home win streak to ten matches.

Robinson, who finished with a share of the team lead in points in 2015, now boasts nine points in just two matches. She finished with 36, alongside teammate Jastin Redman, a season ago.

Bellevue (0-1-0) netted the first goal against JBU this season in the 17th minute to tie the score at one apiece. Madison Lambert caught senior keeper Kristin Morency off her line, and launched a 20-yard strike from the right side of the box.

Luckily, the Golden Eagles were ready with an answer.

Less than a minute later, Redman drew a foul in the midfield and took a free kick from 35 yards out. The shot beat Bellevue keeper Laurence Rodier and struck the crossbar. In the right place at the right time, Robinson tapped in the rebound, potting the game winner in the 18th minute of play.

The Golden Eagles struck first in the 12th minute when junior Sara Frey played a ball up the middle to Robinson in a soft area. Outside the box, Robinson caught Rodier off her line, and struck a laserbeam to the right side netting of the goal.

Senior Kristen Morency (2-0-0) collected two saves, including a timely save in the 63rd minute when Whitney Pratt let go a shot from in close.

Rodier allowed both shots on goal to slip past her, starting the season 0-1-0.

Redman almost gave the hosts a two-goal cushion in the 89th minute, but her shot, destined for the bottom right corner from in close, was cleared off the line by the Bruins defense, maintain the one-goal victory.

Bellevue recorded a 13-6 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn't develop any offense as a result. JBU finished the contest out-shooting the visitors, 15-6.

The match, which was played in front of just shy of a 1,000 people, was part of the annual First Game Under the Lights series. John Brown is now 2-0 in those matches, outscoring its opposition 8-1.

JBU returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 30) when the Golden Eagles travel to the southwest corner of the state to take on Texas A&M-Texarkana at 7 p.m. John Brown won the matchup between the two teams last season, 4-1.
