Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 28, 2005) - The John Brown Golden Eagles men’s and women’s basketball teams are members of the NAIA Division I preseason top-25 rankings that were released Wednesday. The Golden Eagle men, the defending NAIA Division I champions, will begin the 2005-06 season ranked 8th in the nation. The Golden Eagle women are ranked 19th as they return all five of last season’s starters.
Both men’s head coach John Sheehy and women’s head coach Jeff Soderquist appreciate the recognition, but are less concerned about preseason rankings than they are postseason ones. “It’s good recognition for the hard work our players have put in,” Sheehy commented. “This is good for our program, but we all recognize that it’s the ranking at the end of the season that matters.” Soderquist added, “It’s an honor for the girls to be ranked where they are. It shows respect to our team and the players we have returning.”
The John Brown men open their season at home on Nov. 4 at 7:00 against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist (Okla.) in the annual Toilet Paper Game. The John Brown women start their season on the road against Lyon (Ark.) on Nov. 7.
