Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 6, 2004) - The Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to 10-0 after going undefeated at the College of the Ozarks Tournament this weekend. They won all three matches on Friday in three games, defeating Bethel College (30-9, 30-16, 31-29), Tabor College (30-21, 34-32, 30-26), and Huston Tillotson College (30-14, 30-27, 30-14). The Golden Eagle’s faced Texas Wesleyan University, the other undefeated team in the tournament, on Saturday morning. TWU is a member of the Red River Region and was ranked 3rd in the preseason, compared to JBU’s 8th place ranking. TWU started the match with a very aggressive offense and beat the Golden Eagles in the first game 30-21. JBU stepped up their serving and serve receive, and dominated the next three games, winning 30-19, 30-22, and 30-21. The match was an excellent test for the Eagles to determine how well they could come from behind to defeat a strong competitor. JBU finished out the tournament on Saturday with a win over Southwest Assemblies of God University (30-7, 30-12, 30-15). Team leaders for the weekend included Tatiane Silva with 58 kills, Meghann Wharton with 13 blocks, Meghan Wharton and Juliana Todescan with 11 aces each, Christine Wells with 91 digs, and Juliana Todescan with 168 assists. Two Golden Eagles were nominated to the All-Tournament Team. Senior Meghann Wharton had a total of 41 kills, 10 aces, and 13 blocks and Junior Christine Wells had a total of 84 digs, 99% serve receive, and 93% serving.
