Rakestraw’s Career Night Not Enough, John Brown Drops 88-78 Decision


OCEANSIDE, Calif. (December 19, 2012) - Coleson Rakestraw scored a career-high 28 points but it wasn’t enough as Trinity Western (B.C.) outscored John Brown 48-36 in the second half, downing the Golden Eagles 88-78 in JBU’s final game in the Cal. State – San Marcos Holiday Classic held in Oceanside, Calif.

Rakestraw drained 6-of-7 triples on the evening in addition to converting 8-of-10 chances from the free throw line. Senior guard Abel Galliguez chipped in with 13 points while freshman Kofi Josephs finished with 10.

Both teams shot well in the first half as the Spartans edged the Golden Eagles 47.1-46.4 percent. But it was the second half where Trinity Western pulled away from JBU, knocking down 55.2 percent (16-of-29).

Despite sporting a one-point advantage after a Rakestraw triple, the Spartans pieced together a 17-6 run to open the second half, building a 59-49 advantage.

Micah Cockrill and Mark Perrin each contributed 20 points for Trinity Western (6-13).

The Golden Eagles will now open Sooner Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 3, hosting Oklahoma City to an 8:00 p.m. start time.
