JBU Radio Station Nominated for Second Dove Award

Siloam Springs, Ark (April 3, 2002) - KLRC 101.1 FM, a JBU-owned radio station is one of three finalists for the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award for best radio station in a small market. This year’s Dove Award winners will be announced on Thursday April 25, 2002 at the33rd Annual Dove Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. The event is sponsored by the Gospel Music Association and the National Christian Radio Association. KLRC received the 2001 Dove Award for small market radio station of the year last year.

“We are very excited to be named a finalist for the second year in a row,” said Sean Sawatzky, KLRC general manager. “We are enjoying our highest ratings ever , we just completed a record-breaking Sharathon, and now we find ourselves nominated for another Dove Award.”

KLRC’s application and presentation included ratings, examples of KLRC’s community involvement and service, industry leadership and a sample of what KLRC sounds like on the air. A total of 12 judges will critique the presentation.

KLRC operates on the campus of John Brown University and provides exceptional practical training for its 15 student announcers, who make the station very unique. Providing 20 hours of contemporary Christian music and 4 hours of teaching per day, the station is supported by listener donations and business sponsorships. Sawatsky said, “Ultimately we are here to train broadcasters and serve the people of Northwest Arkansas, Southwest Missouri and Eastern Oklahoma.” KLRC presently ranks in the top 10 of all Northwest Arkansas Radio stations in the Fayetteville market. Among its target audience of women ages 25 to 49, the station is ranked 5th. KLRC has a in excess 35,000 listeners each week.

John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of over 1,600 students from 45 states and 33 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
