ARNOLD GRABS SAC SETTER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- For the second time this season, junior Alyssa Arnold wrapped up Sooner Athletic Setter of the Week honors after leading her team to a 4-2 week, the conference offices announced on Monday (Sept. 12) afternoon.
Arnold dished out 126 assists in JBU's 4-2 week, including a pair of conference wins over Science & Arts (Okla.) and Bacone (Okla.) before the Golden Eagles (10-4) exacted revenge on St. Mary (Kan.) and picked up another win over Ozarks (Mo.) at the Evangel University invitational on the weekend.
Averaging 5.73 assist per set, Arnold set a new single-match season high with 32 helpers in JBU's 3-2 win over St. Mary. She finished two other matches with over 20 assists while adding 62 digs and four aces on the week.
"Alyssa had an outstanding week against the competition we played," said head coach Ken Carver. "In five of the six matches, she averaged over 5.00 assists per set, which in a two-setter offensive system is really good. Over the course of the weekend, she was really dialed in with her attackers. This season, Alyssa's performance has shown the growth and confidence she gained last year as being the only setter in our program.
"She has worked hard to learn how and where her attackers like getting set and her decision-making process, in terms of who to set and when during the course of a rally, has significantly improved. All of these things have helped her teammates and our team be as effective and successful as we've been this season. I'm so happy she is being recognized for the second time this season.
Arnold is currently ranked No. 7 in the Sooner Athletic, averaging 5.4 assists per set. She is also fifth in the conference with 289 total helpers.
The Golden Eagles return to SAC action on Friday (Sept. 16) at Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in a 7 p.m. first-serve matchup.
