Howell lands SAC honors after scorching pair of matches
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Freshman Kristen Howell posted seven goals in just two matches, making her the Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, conference offices announced on Monday (Oct. 10) afternoon.
In the landslide victories, 5-0 and 9-0 drubbings of Oklahoma City and St. Gregory's (Okla.), respectively, Howell tallied her first-career hattrick against the Stars and followed up the performance with a four-goal outing against the Cavaliers to finish the week with 14 points.
The honors were the first of Howell's career.
Howell now stands at 10 goals and a trio of assists on the season (23 points) and moved into fourth place in the Sooner Athletic top scoring list, behind teammates Jastin Redman and Aspen Robinson and behind conference leader, Nadine Jaimes of Southwestern A.G. (Texas).
Impressively, Howell tallied hattricks in back-to-back outings for the first time in program history and simultaneously joined Nikki Ganter ('06) as the only players in team history to have multiple hattricks in a career. Also, her four-goal outing against SGU tied an eight-year single-game program record, only done once before in 2008.
The No. 20 Golden Eagles (10-1-1) return to action on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Alumni Field, hosting Science & Arts (Okla.) at 2 p.m.
