Middle of Lineups Propels Men's Tennis to Win over Ozarks
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The John Brown men's tennis team (2-6) captured its second win of the season by edging the University of the Ozarks (Ark.), 5-4, on Saturday (April 2) afternoon at Ozarks Tennis Courts.
Ozarks (2-10) took an 8-1 win behind the play of Dillon Murray and Jacob Organ at No. 1 doubles against senior Colton Cheek and Kumhal Fulgem, but that's where the host's doubles victories would end. Freshmen Fernando Hurley and Nathan Kuykendall moved to 4-4 on the year with an 8-1 win over Alix Tiegs and Bryant Ford before senior Luke Reimer and freshman Matthew Minner teamed up for an 8-4 win at the third slot over Travis Leach and Aaron England.
Armed with a 2-1 lead at the start of singles play, Fulghem, Kuykendall and Reimer each grabbed singles victories at the 3, 4 and 5 slots, respectively. Fulghem and Reimer collected their third wins of the season while Kuykendall evened his singles record to 4-4 on the year.
JBU returns to action on Thursday (April 7) at Southwestern Christian (Okla.) in Bethany, Okla.
