Redman, Morency Sweep Weekly Conference Honors
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After back-to-back wins keeping the John Brown University women's soccer team's record a perfect 4-0-0, senior keeper Kristen Morency and sophomore forward Jastin Redman were named Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference offices announced Monday (Sept. 5).
The Golden Eagles pieced together a 3-1 come-from-behind win on Tuesday (Aug. 30) at Texas A&M – Texarkana before earning a narrow 1-0 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Friday (Sept. 2) at Alumni Field.
Redman, who earned her second career weekly accolades, scored three goals in the two matches this past week, including both game-winners. Against Texarkana, Redman tallied two second-half goals, helping break a 1-1 halftime deadlock. Against Wesleyan, Redman's strike in the slot with 10 minutes left ended an 80-minute draw with the visiting Eagles.
Redman's 11 points paces all scorers in the Sooner Athletic and her 2.75 points per game is fourth-best in the conference.
Morency came up with six saves on the week, including a five-save shutout of OKWU. Morency currently leads all SAC keepers with an overall .500 goals-against average, and leads with a pair of clean sheets.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday (Sept. 9) when JBU takes on No. 20 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in Bourbonnais, Ill. John Brown will turn around and play Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday to complete its tournament slate.
