Vanegas’ two-goal outing helps secure SAC defensive honors
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Sophomore Santiago Vanegas scored a pair of goals and helped with a back line that pitched a shutout, earning him Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week, conference offices announced Monday (Oct. 17) afternoon.
Vanegas netted his first two goals of the season, his first serving as the insurance marker, in John Brown's 5-0 shutout of Science & Arts (Okla.) on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon.
Vanegas scored his brace less than two minutes apart, helping the Golden Eagles (10-1-1, 5-0 SAC) to its third-consecutive shutout and eighth of the season. The accolades from the SAC were the first of Vanegas' career.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 18) in Bethany, Okla., to take on Southwestern Christian (Okla.) at 3 p.m.
