WOMEN'S TENNIS BREAKS FOUR-MATCH SKID WITH ROAD WIN
Clarksville, Ark. -- The John Brown University women's tennis broke a four-match losing streak and picked up a 7-2 win over NCAA III Ozarks (Ark.) on Wedneseday (March 15) at the Hurie Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles picked up all three wins in doubles action, led by a victory at the top spot from senior Taylor Russell and junior Eva Berry. The tandem landed an 8-5 win over Ozarks' Karlee Hart and Imani Doyle. Freshman Julia McNeill and junior Clare Holden's convincing 8-2 win at No. 3 put JBU just two points away from a win.
Instead, John Brown grabbed four wins in singles play, led by Berry's come-from-behind win over Doyle at No. 2. Falling 6-0 in the first set, Berry claimed the second set, 7-6, and completed a 7-0 third-set tiebreak win.
McNeill suffered a heartbreaking 12-10 tiebreak loss, but Holden, junior Grace Cusick and junior Caitlin King landed easy victories at the fourth, fifth and sixth slots, respectively, to close the match.
John Brown will return to action on Friday (March 31) when it travels to Texarkana, Texas to take part in a pair of matches.
