JBU Presents Piano and Saxophone Concert

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 5, 2002) - The John Brown University music department will present a concert featuring pianist Dr. Linda Beckman, professor of music at John Brown University, and Mr. Stan Morris, resident saxophonist at the University of Arkansas. Beckman and Morris will present the concert on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jones Recital Hall on the campus of John Brown University. The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will feature a variety of musical styles and will include the following selections: Sarabande and Gigue by Fisher Tull, Six Studies in English Folk-Song by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Romance Celebre by Padre Martini, Sonatine Sportative by Alexandre Tcherepnin, Miniature Viennese March by Fritz Kreisler and Sonata, Op. 19 by Paul Creston. Stan Morris has served as the resident saxophonist at the University of Arkansas for more than a decade. Active as a soloist and clinician, Morris has performed with world-renowned saxophonists Sigurd Rascher and Lawrence Gworzdz and has had the honor of premiering new works for the saxophone quartet with the Rascher Quartet. He has also traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe performing as a soloist and in chamber music concerts. Linda Beckman is the chair of the music department at JBU, where she has been an assistant professor of music for the past six years. She has performed internationally in Brazil, Zimbabwe, and El Salvador and has accompanied for opera singers in Carnegie Hall, NYC, and in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina and Oklahoma. Before coming to JBU, Dr. Beckman taught at Oxnard College and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and accompanied at University of California, Santa Barbara.
