JBU’s Eighth Annual ‘Day of Caring’

Siloam Springs, Ark (August 20, 2002) - On Saturday, August 24, more than 450 John Brown University students, faculty and staff will volunteer their time to help paint, repair and improve several key locations in the Siloam Springs community. This is the eighth year for JBU to sponsor the annual ‘Day of Caring’ event, which gives JBU students the opportunity to work on projects benefiting the city and its residents. It also provides the opportunity for students to work together and contribute to the community in which they live, work and study. Day of Caring is part of the fall semester student orientation on the JBU campus.

This year, JBU students, faculty and staff will log more than 1,000 man-hours of volunteer community service to Siloam Springs. The volunteers will spend the day painting, cleaning, pulling weeds, picking up trash and working on many other indoor and outdoor service projects. Sites for this year’s Day of Caring include: Siloam Springs parks and gazebos, Quail Ridge and Heritage Heights nursing homes, Siloam Springs High School and Middle School, the Salvation Army, downtown Main Street, the Boys and Girls Club, the library, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, New Life Ranch, several area churches and many other locations.

“Day of Caring is a great opportunity for JBU students to give back to the Siloam Springs community,” said Jonathan Meeks, a JBU Resident Director who is organizing the volunteer event. “We are expecting a record number of volunteers, and we are thankful for this opportunity to serve the community.”

The Day of Caring event will kick off at 10:45 at the JBU campus. For a complete list of work sites, contact Cherissa Dees at (479) 524-7358.
