Turnovers hamper Golden Eagles

Oklahoma City (February 17, 2012) - The 13th ranked JBU men’s basketball team suffered their worst loss of the year on Thursday night after falling 87-59 to Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in conference road action.  The loss drops the men to 21-6 overall and 13-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Senior Adrian Miller and junior EJ McWoods led the Eagles with 13 points each, while freshman Tucker Trumbo put in 11.

For MACU (13-11, 8-11), four players finished in double figures led by Camilo Valencia with 20.

JBU fell behind 11-0 early before pulling within two midway through the first half.  But MACU continued to pour it on and force JBU into committing turnovers.  The Evangels extended their lead to as many as 16 in the first before taking a 37-23 lead into the locker rooms.

In the second period, turnovers continued to break JBU’s back, and MACU took full advantage of it by converting from the field and the foul line.  MACU shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field and 70.7 percent (29-of-41) from the charity stripe.

For JBU, they committed a season high 33 turnovers, while forcing only eight from MACU.  JBU did, however, mange to shoot well from the floor hitting 50 percent (20-of-40) of their attempts.  They also out rebounded MACU 36-31.

The Golden Eagles won’t have long to think about the loss as they are back in action on Saturday to face Oklahoma City at 5 p.m. in Bill George Arena.
