Ladies cruise by Dickinson State

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (December 19, 2011) - Sophomore Sierra Shipley poured in 23 points to help the JBU Lady Golden Eagles cruise by Dickinson State (N.D.) 69-55 on Monday afternoon at the Trip Sports Cruzin Classic.
Shipley was nearly perfect on the day, going 9-of-10 overall including 5-of-6 from three point territory. Freshman Lauren Rogers also reached double figures with 13 points, followed by senior Chelsea Garrison with 10.
For DSU (5-12), Kylee Bittner scored 23 points, and Jordyn Bender added 12.
After leading 35-24 at halftime, the Lady Eagles continued to pour it on in the second half. DSU briefly managed to make it a single digit game after a bucket from Bittner in the opening minute made it 35-26, but that would be as close as it would get.
JBU increased their lead by as many as 19 after a trey from Shipley with 8:34 left in the game. But DSU made a mini- run to cut it back to 11 with 4:00 to go before the Lady Eagles closed it out with the 14 point win.
JBU canned 49 percent (24-of-49) from the floor including 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from beyond the arc. DSU, meanwhile, was limited to 36.5 percent (19-of-52) including a dismal 9.5 percent (2-of-21) from long distance. JBU also won the rebounding battle 32-31.
This was JBU’s final non-conference match of the year. The ladies return to action on Saturday, Dec. 31 when they travel to take on Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee at 3 p.m.
