Jackson, Tenn. (September 2, 2011) - The JBU men’s soccer team gave a valiant effort on Friday evening but walked away with a 3-4 loss to Notre Dame (Ohio) during the Union (Tenn.) Classic.  The loss drops the men to 0-2 on the year.

The Falcons, who are coming off a 2010 NAIA National Tournament Championship appearance, took commanding control of the match after posting three goals in the first half.

JBU would regroup, however, and found some momentum in the 54th minute when Hunter Bradford connected with senior Joel Thomas to put the Golden Eagles on the board.

Down 3-1 at this point, JBU continued to fight and managed to pick up their second goal after sophomore Luke Theimer put away a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

With time against them, JBU pushed ahead and scored the equalizer off the foot of Theimer at the 73:52 mark, for his second goal of the day.  But a JBU infraction in the 86th minute allowed NDC’s Tom Owens to convert a free kick from 20 yards away from the goal giving the Falcons the one goal edge as time expired.

For the match, the Falcons out shot JBU 12-8 with an 8-7 shots on goal advantage.

Sophomore Pablo Garcia and freshman Matt Henry shared time in goal for the day.  Both players picked up two saves.

JBU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they take on Reinhardt (Ga.) at 5 p.m. during day two of the Union Classic.
