Women’s Soccer Open Season with a Win

Siloam Springs, Arkansas (August 26, 2011) - by Jessica Flynn
The JBU women’s soccer team defeated Bethel (Tenn.) 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field in their season opener.
Laura Garcia scored the first goal at the 10:52 mark after dribbling through the entire defensive line. She delivered a blowing kick outside the eighteen yard line which brought the ball just over the keeper’s head.
Garcia also scored in the second half for the Eagles in the 55th minute after a strong break away shot which slipped through the keeper’s hands.
JBU head coach Scott Marksberry was thrilled the team was able to win their first game of the season.
“It’s good anytime you can get a win the first game of the season. You have to feel good about that,” said Marksberry. “I felt like things came together today that we have been working on in training that we haven’t done well in any other scrimmage that we played. But we did do well today, so I’m really proud.”
The women return to action Saturday, August 27 at 4 p.m. to face Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
