Flying Queens Fly By Lady Eagles

Plainview, Texas (February 26, 2011) - The JBU women’s basketball team came up empty in Texas after losing to Wayland Baptist 65-73 on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops JBU to 20-10 on the season and into sole possession of fifth place in the SAC with a 14-8 conference record heading into tournament play.
Katie Mangels posted 18 points for the Lady Eagles, while Chelsea Garrison finished with 12. Anna Parish and Kortni Kendrick added 11 a piece. Staffica Bain had a game-high 12 boards.
For WBU (16-13, 10-12), Staci Murphee had 16 and Erika Raymond finished with 15, while Angeleigh Davis put in 13.
JBU had a sloppy first half that saw them fall behind 20-30 at the break.
But in the second half, the ladies began to click and knock down shots and managed to take a three point lead with 7:10 left to play. The Flying Queens regrouped, however, and retook the lead after a jumper from Davis with 6:18 left and never fell behind again.
For the game, JBU shot 40.4 percent (21-52) from the field while giving up 42.1 percent (24-57) to WBU. JBU claimed the battle of the boards 38-31, but committed 18 turnovers while forcing only 11.
JBU now awaits the release of the SAC tournament bracket.
