Siloam Springs, Ark (March 7, 2003) - Summer Cox of Windsor, Colorado, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at John Brown University in the fall of 2003.

Cox is a 5’10” middle/outside standout hitter from Heritage Christian High School in Fort Collins, Co. Heritage Christian went 29 and 1 in 2002, with the only loss coming in the state semi-finals. Heritage Christian finished third in state in 2002 and fifth in state in 2001.

Cox finished the 2002 season ranked second in the state in blocks, third in the state in kills, 13th in the state in serves, 25th in the state in digs and 73rd in assists. She was named a Fort Collins Coloradoan Athlete of the Week in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Other honors for Cox include: team captain (2001,2002); Most Valuable Player (2001,2002); Denver Post All-State Tournament Team (2002); Rocky Mountain News All-State Team (2002); Mile-Hi League All Conference First Team (2002); Mile-Hi League Sportsmanship of the Year Award (2002); and All-State Honorable Mention (2001).

“Summer is a tremendous addition to our team,” said Robin Gordon, JBU volleyball coach. “We are excited to have a player of her caliber join us. Her versatility as a hitter will help a lot and she has solid back-row skills. Summer shouldn’t have any problem adjusting to a new setter as Heritage Christian teammate Rachel Melby has also committed to JBU. In addition to her athletic ability, Summer is also a tremendous student in the classroom. She has received a Chancellor’s Academic Scholarship at JBU based on her academic accomplishments.”

John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of more than 1,700 students from 42 states and 45 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
