Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 18, 2010) - The JBU women’s basketball team was on a mission on Thursday night as they knocked off the 20th ranked Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps at home 65-63 to snap a seven game home losing streak.

Junior Ashley Taylor paced JBU (9-18, 5-14) with 19 points and seven boards. Chelsea Garrison and Katie Mangels finished with 12 and 10 respectively.

Renee Wilson tossed in 12 points to lead LCU (17-8, 12-7).

JBU took command of the game early on, but LCU came back to cut it to three, 28-25, just before the half.

In the second period, the Lady Eagles picked up their defensive pressure and steadily increased their margin. With 8:53 remaining, Mangels knocked down a pair of free-throws giving JBU a 48-39 lead, but Shamika Singleton capped off a 7-3 run to help LCU pull within four with under six minutes left.

With 2:09 on the clock, Taylor scored on the inside to make it 56-51 JBU, but LCU’s April Ehlers responded with a three on the other end to cut it to two. JBU wouldn’t get rattled, however, as Mangels came back down and drilled a three of her own to push it back to a five point JBU lead, 59-54, with 1:38 remaining.

In the final minute it was a battle of who could make free-throws and JBU came out on top taking home the two point win.

For the game, JBU shot 48.8% while holding LCU to 35.9%. JBU also out rebounded LCU 38-32.

Still fighting to claim that final spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, JBU faces No. 25 Wayland Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Murray Sells.
