Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 4, 2010) - Despite a double-double effort from senior Davaughn Jackson, the JBU men’s basketball team fell 81-75 to No. 4 Oklahoma Christian in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Monday night in Murray Sells. The loss drops JBU to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in the SAC. Jackson finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Junior Sam Bartlett also added 18 to go along with seven rebounds, and sophomore Adrian Miller had 15 points and nine boards. Freshman EJ McWoods tossed in 12.

Oklahoma Christian (14-0, 6-0) got 16 points and four rebounds from Jason Taylor and 15 points from Devan White.

OC led by as many as eight in the first period, before allowing JBU to tie things up 26-26 with 4:28 left in the half. OC then went on a 10-4 run to close out the half and push their lead to six, 36-30, heading into the locker rooms.

The second half saw both teams trade blows as neither would give up an inch matching the other point for point. With 7:12 left in the game, however, JBU came within striking distance after Jackson followed up a Miller miss in the paint to cut the OC lead to three, 61-58. OC quickly responded on the other end after a Jeff Crocker basket. JBU missed on their next possession and fouled on the defensive end putting OC in the bonus where Andrew Vaughn buried both freebies to go up by seven, 65-58.

JBU continued to stick around until the 3:43 mark when Vaughn converted a four-point play after getting fouled while nailing a three from the corner. This pushed OC ahead by 10, 69-59.

JBU never fully regrouped from this point as OC managed to hold on for the win.

For the game, JBU shot 39.7% (27-68), while giving up 49% (25-51) to OC. JBU also struggled from beyond the arc only canning 12.5% (3-24). Meanwhile, OC knocked down 50% (12-24) of their long range attempts. JBU went 18 of 28 from the charity stripe, and OC went 19 of 27.

JBU crushed OC on the boards 50-29, and both teams were fairly even in the turnover column with the 11-10 advantage going to JBU.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday when they face SAC rival Mid America Christian at 8 p.m. in Murray Sells.

There will be free admission with a donation of an unopened jar of peanut butter or jelly. Proceeds will go to the Manna Center.
