Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 3, 2009) - John Brown University Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty has announced that John Miglarese will be the new men’s soccer coach at JBU. “We are excited for John to join the JBU staff,” said Daugherty. “He brings great energy and motivation, as well as a commitment to excellence on and off the field.”

Daugherty added that she expects Miglarese to fit in right away and be very involved in his player’s development – athletically, spiritually and academically.

Miglarese has spent the past four seasons as head coach of Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, Ga.), which is a member of the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

In those four years, Miglarese has accumulated an overall record of 39-31-5.

This past fall, his squad finished with a 10-8-2 record while reaching the AAC tournament championship.

In 2007, he guided his team to a 15-4-1 record, which included Miglarese receiving Conference and Region Coach of the Year honors after leading his team to a regular season AAC title, Region XII title, and NAIA National Tournament appearance.

Before his stint at Covenant, Miglarese served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University (N.C.) from 2003-2005. In 2002, he received his master’s degree in sports management while working as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Georgia Southern throughout the year. Prior to that, he served as an intern assistant for men's and women's soccer at Milligan College (Tenn.) in 2000.

The 30-year old Miglarese stated that he and his wife Jessica, and two children, four-year old John Marshall and two-year old Isabella, are looking forward to the move to Siloam Springs.

"I am very honored and excited to have this opportunity,” said Miglarese. “I have been impressed by the potential of the team and professionalism of the JBU athletic department, and my hope is to build a nationally competitive team that will reflect the mission and values of JBU.”

Miglarese will replace long time JBU head coach, Bob Gustavson, who announced his retirement earlier this year after 29 years of coaching and teaching at JBU.

“Coach Gustavson built a tremendous program and left a great opportunity for the next person that came in,” added Miglarese. “I look forward to working with him during the transition period.”

Miglarese plans to travel to JBU within the next few weeks to begin spring workouts and continue recruiting.
