JBU Welcomes Award Winning Pianist Joel Fan

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 4, 2009) - National award-winning pianist Joel Fan will be the special guest at John Brown University on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3:00 p.m. Part of the Lyceum series, the concert will be held in the Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. Admission is free and open to the public. Fan began his performing career with the New York Philharmonic at age 11, and has since appeared in recitals and with orchestras throughout the world. Fan's vast repertoire spans traditional piano classics and concertos and includes his own piano transcriptions, cadenzas, and newly commissioned works. Fan has performed to critical acclaim with orchestras in the United States, Germany, Bulgaria, England, Japan and Singapore. Fan’s schedule includes a recent notable performance of Beethoven Triple Concerto with the New York Philharmonic and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Fan’s debut solo recording “World Keys” was released in June 2006 on the Reference Recordings label, and includes works of Prokofiev, Schumann, Liszt, and recent works by Dia Succari, Qigang Chen, Peter Sculthorpe and Peteris Vasks. As a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Fan has appeared in numerous performances with the Ensemble at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Center in Chicago, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, as well as on the television shows Good Morning America and David Letterman. Fan has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Peabody Conservatory.
