KLRC Listeners Help Grant Christmas Wishes

Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 18, 2008) - Christmas came early for many Northwest Arkansas families this year thanks to listeners of local radio station 101.1 FM KLRC. KLRC once again initiated its “Christmas Wish” campaign in hopes of touching the lives of listeners who are facing various challenges and need a helping hand this season. The surprising eagerness of listeners to grant wishes has contradicted expectations based on the current economic climate. After Thanksgiving, KLRC began asking listeners to make a Christmas wish online at http://christmaswish.wordpress.com/ for themselves or someone they knew. Even before KLRC could start reading the wishes over the air on December 15, listeners started fulfilling wishes they saw posted online. To date, the site has received over 50,000 hits, more than 120 have been posted, and more than 50 wishes have been granted. Some of the wishes that have been granted so far include: • Providing kitchen appliances for a family trying to make a fresh start after incarceration. • Giving glasses to a young boy whose family could not afford them. • Providing gas cards and making a custom toy box for a child that will spend Christmas in Children’s hospital. • A seventh grade class adopted a group of special education students from another school and provided them with Christmas gifts. • Buying gifts for the children of a single mom who is having trouble making ends meet this Christmas. "Christmas Wish began a year ago with the prayer of helping grant 3 wishes, now with the help of listeners across Northwest Arkansas we are seeing so many individuals, families, co-workers, and businesses touch the lives of so many in need,” said Mark Michaels, morning show host and program director. “We're humbled to just be a part of it!” This event marks the second month in a row that listeners have partnered with the station on special events designed to give to others. In November, KLRC listeners stepped up to perform random acts of kindness in response to KLRC’s “Pay it Forward” campaign.
