Gary Oliver Appointed CCCU Senior Fellow

Siloam Springs, Ark (February 25, 2003) - Dr. Gary Oliver, executive director of the Center for Marriage and Family Studies (CMFS) on the campus of John Brown University, has been appointed a Senior Fellow with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU). Oliver is professor of psychology and practical theology at JBU and is also a clinical psychologist. Senior Fellows appointed by the CCCU are members of the academic community who have a specific project that is of mutual interest and benefit to the CCCU, themselves and their institution. They are appointed for one year with no limits on renewals to this position to focus on their project. In his role as senior fellow, Oliver will explore the development of positive relational skills (or emotional intelligence) as a distinctive of a Christian campus, gathering information and ideas from CCCU members and affiliates that could then be shared in appropriate venues. He will be able to share his information with the board of the CCCU to discuss opportunities and ideas that arise from his research. The Center for Marriage and Family Studies was founded at JBU in 1998. Its mission is to equip students, individuals, couples, families and organizations to cultivate healthy relationships through Christ-centered counseling, consulting, education and enrichment. The Center also supports JBU’s graduate programs in counseling. CMFS sponsors national and international seminars, classes, workshops and conferences each year. In 2001, more than 43,000 people attended events featuring staff from the Center for Marriage and Family Studies. The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities is an international association of Christian colleges and universities. The CCCU exists to advance the cause of Christian higher education.
