CRE Grant Funds Engaged Couple Seminar

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 7, 2007) - The Center for Relationship Enrichment (CRE) will offer the “I Choose Us” engaged couples seminar Friday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Rogers. The event is free, but reservations are required. The two-day seminar will help equip engaged couples with eight hours of marriage enrichment education, a personal couples’ assessment report, and a discussion guide for ongoing couple interaction. Attending this event also qualifies engaged couples for a covenant marriage license, if married in the state of Arkansas. “With the latest research showing that Northwest Arkansas has the highest divorce rate in Arkansas and perhaps the highest in the nation, it is important that we equip engaged couples with the knowledge and skills that will increase their ability to build and sustain a healthy, satisfying and lifelong marriage,” Greg Smalley, director of Marriage Ministries for the Center for Relationship Enrichment, said. CRE recently finished the first year of a five-year, $2.7 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families, to support research and development of healthy marriages in Northwest Arkansas. The grant covers the cost of the seminar, which would otherwise cost more than $200 per couple. This is the second of three events being held this month in Northwest Arkansas to help counteract the growing trend of divorce. Couples can register for the event online at, or by calling 479-524-7444. The Center for Relationship Enrichment at JBU was founded in 1998. The Center’s mission is to educate, equip and enrich people for developing healthy relationships through consulting, education, enrichment, resources, research and assessment. The CRE offers marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, and relationships skills services to all of Northwest Arkansas.
