Women Fall on Day One of C of O Classic

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 10, 2006) - The John Brown Golden Eagles women’s basketball team opened day one of the College of the Ozarks Classic with a 67-59 loss against Lindenwood (Mo.) Friday night. Freshman guard Paige Blackburn paced John Brown with 16 points and 7 assists. Senior post Tara Stephenson scored 11, and senior guard Nancy Pierre had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

John Brown (1-2) trailed Lindenwood 26-22 at halftime, but fought back in the second half to cut the deficit to four before Lindenwood was able to pull away.

Head coach Jeff Soderquist said, “We gave ourselves a chance in the second half, but this is the third game in a row where we’ve allowed our opponents to shoot over 50 percent from the floor. It’s difficult to win when we allow this to happen.”

On Saturday, day two of the classic, John Brown faces Tabor (Kan.) at 1:00 p.m.
