Golden Eagles Fall in First Round

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 16, 2005) - The 18th-seeded John Brown Golden Eagles’ first trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Olathe, Kan., ended in the first round Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to 15th-seeded Bethel (Tenn.). Carla Chambers scored an 8-yard shot on an assist from Candace Cunningham to give the Wildcats (14-5-2) a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. John Brown’s Nikki Ganter tied the game in the 34th minute with an unassisted goal following a corner kick.

Bethel regained the lead in the 51st minute with a goal by Alicia James that was assisted by Leah O’Grady and Cheryl Noonan. O’Grady then set the final margin in the 65th minute when she scored off a rebound.

John Brown goalkeeper Natalie Wall made 8 saves while facing 17 Bethel shots. Wildcat goalkeeper Ugo Opara made 5 saves against 10 Golden Eagle shots.

John Brown finished the season 13-6-2.
