Traditional Undergraduates

When will fall commencement be?
Our traditional undergraduate students who are completing their coursework this December will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Bill George Arena. Graduate and online undergraduate students will have commencement on Saturday, Dec. 5 with the exact time to be determined.

How do I order my regalia?
Regalia can be ordered through the JBU Bookstore.

How many guests can attend?
Each graduate may have four family members attend commencement. You will be issued four tickets and those tickets must be presented in order to gain entrance to BGA. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

If I don’t have four guests, can I give my extra tickets to a friend for their family?
No. Due to physical distancing requirements, our ability to hold commencement is partially based on the size of groups sitting together in the arena.

Can I give one of my tickets to a non-family member (i.e. girlfriend/boyfriend or friend)?
No. Your ticketed guests need to sit together and in order to meet the ADH guidelines, this means they must be members of the same family group. The ceremony will be streamed on YouTube so that others can watch.

Will we need to wear masks during commencement?
Yes, in order to comply with the Arkansas mask mandate, all guests, graduates, faculty and staff will be required to wear a mask during the ceremony.

Will I get to shake President Pollard’s hand as I walk across the stage?
No, but we promise he will give you a great “air high-five” as you walk across the stage.

Will graduate students still be hooded as part of the ceremony?
Yes. We will ask the two members of the faculty who participate in the hooding to wear additional PPE but the hooding will still take place.

What other COVID-19 protocols will be in place?
We will be conducting temperature checks of graduates and all attendees on the morning of commencement. Anyone with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will not be able to participate/attend the ceremony.

What do I do if I need handicap-accessible seating for a family member?
We will have handicap-accessible seating reserved. Please contact Jarrod Heathcote to let him know of your need.

Do I still need to attend classes on Nov 23 and 24?
Yes, the traditional undergraduate students will still need to attend class on Monday and Tuesday of the following week and complete their final exams Dec. 1-4. We scheduled commencement prior to these events to avoid Thanksgiving weekend.

When will graduates need to be moved out of their residence hall?
Move out is to be completed by 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Will we have a commencement for May 2020 graduates?
Yes! We will be having a commencement for our May 2020 graduates on December 5 and are communicating with those students with additional details.
