Private Music Lessons

Private lessons are available for piano, voice, guitar, drums, and organ. Semester enrollment will include 14 lessons, one lesson per week. The Fall Session will begin the week of August 20 and end the week of December 3. No lessons will be given on Labor Day (September 3) or Thanksgiving (November 22, 23). All private lessons require a registration fee each semester to cover administrative and facility use fees. The registration fee is $15 per student, or $20 per family. This fee should be paid after a schedule has been arranged with the private instructor, and before the first lesson. Tuition payment can be made in full at the beginning of the semester, or in three equal payments due on September 1, October 1 and November 1.

Tuition cost for lessons is based on the qualifications of the instructor. Students may request the level of instructor desired, but not all requests can be met due to limited availability of instructors. The tuition fee schedule is as follows:

Early Childhood Music Classes

Research shows that studying music as a young child builds a solid foundation for school readiness and academic success. Community Arts Academy’s comprehensive, multi-age Early Childhood Music program develops aural skills, motor coordination and self control while instilling a lifelong love of music and the ability to express creatively.  These classes also provide an opportunity for positive, enjoyable parent-child interaction. We currently offer classes for ages 6 months to walking, walking to 36 months, 3-4 years old, and 4-8 years old (two sessions available).

Family Music for Babies to 36 months

14 week session (30-minute class)

These classes are designed to bring the joy of music and movement to babies, toddlers and their caregivers. Activities include singing, dancing, focused listening and simple instrument playing. Classes create an environment in which the child's music aptitude is nurtured and creativity is encouraged. 

Parents accompany their child during the 30-minute class. Home materials include a full-color parent book and digital music download/CD. Participants in the Babies class also receive an instrument kit.

Cycle of Seasons (Ages 3-5)

14-week session (45-minute class)

Classes for preschool age children and their caregivers celebrate a love of nature through musical activities focused on the seasons.  Classes are designed to build attention and self-expression, and also encourage a child’s growing independence.  Activities include singing, chanting, moving, listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement, and storytelling.

Parents accompany their child during the 45-minute class. Home materials include a full-color parent book and digital music download/CD.

Pre-Piano I
: Music Makers at Home (Ages 4-6)
Pre-Piano II: Music Makers Around the World (Ages 5-8 Years)

14-week session (60-minute class)

These sequential classes cultivate the child's musical development through songs, tonal and rhythm patterns, poetry and stories, movement activities, listening games, instrumental play and manipulative games. Pre-Piano I (Music Makers at Home) introduces rudimentary music skills such as pitch matching, beat competency, ensemble development, and music notation using themes taken from the child's home environment and natural surroundings. In part two of this two-year program (Music Makers Around the World), children will continue singing, ear training, playing instruments, ensemble work and creative movement activities. Students explore the music of other cultures, including American-Indian, African-American, British, and German music. Additionally, this course accentuates higher-level skills such as symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self-expression skills. (Pre-Piano II: Music Makers Around the World requires completion of Pre-Piano I or instructor approval.)

Parents join children during the last 15 minutes of class. Material packets include digital music download and CD, a poster and game pieces, notation games, instrument pages and a parent book. Children receive 4 packets throughout two semesters.
