Newspaper: The Threefold Advocate

The Threefold Advocate is the award-winning student newspaper at John Brown University. The 10-page weekly broadsheet is published 22 times each school year. The news and advertising are produced for practicum credit by communication majors and minors. Other JBU students may assist as designers, columnists, editorial cartoonists and photographers. The student editors and staff make all the editorial and production decisions under the auspices of a faculty adviser.

Recent Awards:

  • State competition for Newspaper of the Year, third place finisher, 2019.
  • Reporter of the Year, as well as five other awards, from the Arkansas College Media Association, 2019 Media Contest.
  • Designer of the Year and First Place News Writing at the Arkansas College Media Association 2018 Media Contest.
  • Reporter of the year at the Arkansas College Media Association 2017 Media Contest.
  • Reporter of the year, Photographer of the Year, Designer of the Year, and Editor of the Year at the Arkansas College Media Association 2016 Media Contest.
  • Newspaper of the Year, Newspaper Editor of the Year, Reporter of the Year, Photographer of the Year at the Arkansas College Media Association 2015 Media Contest.
  • 'Newspaper of the Year’ at the Arkansas College Media Association 2012 Media Contest.
  • The Threefold Advocate took first place in General Excellence and Editorial Writing among nine other Arkansas colleges and universities represented, including the University of Arkansas, University of Central Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist University.
  • The Threefold Advocate took first in general excellence in 2008 and again in 2010.

Yearbook: The Nesher

JBU's yearbook, The Nesher, has been a proud tradition since 1926 with its first publication under the name Jebroco. With the name Nesher since 1982, the yearbook continues to record the highlights of the year to the best of the staff's ability.

Radio: KLRC

KLRC 90.9 is ranked one of the top radio stations in NW Arkansas. The station has grown to reach more than 60,000 listeners each week. JBU students can work for the station in positions such as production assistant and announcer.

Real FM.online is an online music ministry of 90.9 KLRC. Real FM exists to fill a void for Christian hit music in Northwest Arkansas, and to train future broadcasters studying at John Brown University.

Television: EagleBreak

EagleBreak gives students hands-on experience in creating content for radio, TV, and online platforms. Students take two semesters of this practicum course - the first semester focuses on learning in the classroom and the second semester is hands-on experience producing a weekly news-style broadcast.

Golden Eagle Productions: Sports Broadcasting

Golden Eagle Productions provides streaming broadcasts of JBU Basketball Games. The games are entirely student produced including commentary, camerawork, and all other production. If you are interested in being involved in the production of the games, please contact Darren Gould at dgould@jbu.edu.
