Varsity Esports Director

Position Summary
This position will be responsible for developing and launching the varsity eSports program and is in charge of recruiting student-athletes, managing the budget, overseeing the general operations, coaching and building the program identity. The eSports program has limited athletic scholarship money and operates as a Tier III –participation level sport at JBU. Emphasis will be placed on recruiting and retaining a solid squad of 20 in the first year and building to 40 student-athletes by year three. The university may deem it necessary to split this role into 2 positions in order to maximize the ability to secure the best leadership candidate(s)for this emerging sport.
Role qualifications
- Knowledge and ability of creating a qualityEsports team with the focus on recruitment and retention by providing a quality experience to our students.
- Assist with the renovation of the facility, as well as the FFE, budgeting and set up of the new venue.
- Strong ability to create good will with staff, faculty, and students with a servant attitude.
- Commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
- Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities
- Recruits student-athletes to JBU by working closely with area Esports programs and with JBU admissions.
- Hold tryouts/open houses and/orID days to identify new members of the team–online or in person.
- Sets goals and objectives and manages available resources to accomplish them without need for frequent follow up.
- Work with the Director of Athletics to devise a competition schedule each year and strategize on game selection.
- Collaborate with other on-campus departments including, but not limited to, IT, Computer Science, Alumni Office, Marketing and Communications.
- Provide guidance and input on games selected for varsity and non-varsity competition.
- Offer regular feedback on equipment upgrades, updates and maintenance.
- Monitors and mentors academic progress of team members.
- Responsible for the conduct of team members at all practices and competitions.
- Guides and mentors student-athletes in academic and social expectations.
- Works with head trainer in the prevention and care of athletic related injuries.
- Be present at all organized competitions and events.
- Organizes and conducts effective practice sessions. Be present at all organized practices or delegate responsibility to specific team coaches.
- Manages and works within the operational budget and scholarship budget.
- Administrative tasks including forms, records, awards, meetings, etc.
- Review agreements, contract deadlines, rules and compliance within any associated league, conference and affiliates.
- Organizes and is responsible for equipment and uniform/equipment purchasing,checkout, inventory,andstorage.
- Be present at all organized practices andevents.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Essential skills and Experience
- Esports knowledge and background with coaching experience.
- Prior teaching experience
- Good communication skills and administrative abilities.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

No direct reports.

- Physical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
