Payroll Specialist - Temporary Position

Position summary

The Payroll Specialist is a part-time temporary position that reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. Performing critical payroll functions to further the mission and objectives of the University, the position supports the processing of payroll for faculty, staff, and students complying with federal and state laws.  The position also supports other Human Resources functions as needed.  Specific hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 1 PM.

Role Qualifications 

  • Strong ability to create good will with staff, faculty, and students; servant attitude.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate tactfully, and confidentially, is required.
  • Sets objectives and accomplishes them without the need for frequent follow-up. Task oriented, with ability to move multiple tasks forward while handling interruptions.
  • Ability to learn new tasks and concepts and the desire to continue professional growth.
  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Inputs data and processes time for bi-weekly and work-study payrolls, enters data for semi-monthly payroll, and prints and distributes checks. 
  • Serves as in-person representative for all aspects of student payroll.
  • Enters new hire information for student employees including graduate assistants and adjunct employees. 
  • Works with Financial Aid office to coordinate work-study students and position maintenance.
  • Submits new hire reporting to the state of Arkansas.
  • Maintains records and policies related to the I-9 process.
  • Provides timely responses to inquiries at
  • Answers questions from employees relating to payroll issues.
  • Assists with W-2 and 1095-C processes. 
  • Other duties as assigned.    

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Working knowledge of PC applications with computer software experience in Microsoft Office Suite. 


High School Diploma required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
