Director of Student Activities

Position summary:

This position is responsible for leading and directing a holistic campus engagement effort and general participation within the student development staff.

  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Direct supervision of the student directors of the Student Events and Activities Committee (SEA)
  • General oversight of weekly (and weekend) student activities both on and off campus hosted by SEA
  • Oversees distribution of Student Activities Funds and monitors clubs and organization spending
  • Oversees the production of announcements for activities, keeps the activities calendar, the Here and Now student e-newsletter and manages the schedules for the Student Leadership room and Walker Student Center
  • Oversees approval of all advertisement on campus from the outside community as well as other students or groups not associated with an official club or organization
  • Sets goals and objectives and manages available resources to achieve objectives, without need for frequent follow-up
  • Participates in Title IX investigations and trainings
  • May include advisor to the Student Government Association as required
  • May include teaching with a team in the Student Leadership Class in the spring semester
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Background of involvement in working with college students and leaders, in hiring, training, and teaching individuals and groups.
  • Management and organizational skills.  Time and stress management skills. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.  Presentation skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Computer word processing and data management skills.

Education:

Master’s degree in student development, counseling, or a related field and five years of experience in Student Development preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment:  The noise level in the work environment is sometimes significant.
  • Irregular work hours: positions requires week night and weekend work hours
