Graduate Counseling Clinical Director-Little Rock

Position Summary

The Clinical Director - Little Rock (LR) provides leadership of clinical operations for the Department of Graduate Counseling in Little Rock, serving and equipping our diverse student population, 27% of whom are African American and 6% of whom are other minorities. This position carries full-time staff status.  Approximately two-thirds of this role will involve overseeing and managing the Community Counseling Clinic in Little Rock.  The remaining one-third of the role will include directing the internship field placement process in Little Rock.  This position is located at the JBU Counselor Education Center in Little Rock and reports to the Graduate Counseling Department Chair on the university’s main campus in Siloam Springs.  This position requires flexibility to work some weekday evenings and the occasional weekend.

Program

The Department of Graduate Counseling resides within the College of Education and Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers courses leading to the degree of Master of Science in Counseling. Its mission is to provide Christ-centered counselor training that promotes personal development, academic excellence, and clinical competency. Graduates of this program are eligible to pursue careers in professional counseling. Central to our counselor preparation is the university’s Community Counseling Clinic where student interns develop clinical skills with actual clients under the supervision of faculty.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Counseling or related field.
  • Licensed (or license eligible) as a counselor or therapist in the State of Arkansas.
  • Relevant supervisor experience and credentials.
  • Evidence of leadership potential.
  • A commitment to the integration of the Christian faith and counseling/supervision.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students.
  • A desire to equip counselors, through culturally responsive and culturally relevant pedagogy, to serve a diverse set of clients
  • Must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ
  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desires to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of licensed counseling experience.
  • Experience supervising graduate students and/or relevant professional experience in related fields.
  • Administrative and institutional leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations.

Education 

Master’s degree in Counseling or related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
