Circulation Coordinator

Position summary

Responsible for library circulation, reserve collection, supervising students working in public services, and other library public/technical services support functions.

Position responsibilities 

  • Establish objectives and accomplishes them without need for frequent follow-up.
  • Manage library circulation using Koha to maintain circulation records, prepare and distribute overdue notices, collect fines and fees, maintain patron records, prepare monthly circulation reports, and send student bills to the Business Office.
  • Processing book orders through multiple platforms.
  • Supervise student work-study including the following: hiring, training, scheduling, and daily operations.
  • Assist patrons including the following: check-in/out of material, provide information about the library, basic database searches, reserve rooms, etc.
  • Operate and troubleshoot computers, copiers, and microform reader/printer.
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to study and research in public areas of the library.
  • Supervise and maintain the Reserve collection.
  • Process new library materials by affixing spine labels, security tapes, etc.
  • Perform book repair as needed.
  • Assist the Access Services Librarian in cataloging new materials using Koha, OCLC, and other tools.
  • Assist the Access Services Librarian in processing Interlibrary Loans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience 

  • Aptitude for supervising and training students
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Established customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office 365 suite.
  • Ability to learn and utilize library software and systems.

Preferred skills and experience 

  • Extensive supervisory and training experience. 
  • General office experience. 
  • Copy cataloging experience.
  • Knowledge of MARC and other library standards.
  • Proficient in Spanish.

Education

Two or more years of college. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

The employee is expected to adhere to all University policies.
