Boiler Operator - Night Shift

Position Summary

Responsible for shift operation and maintenance of the University's stationary steam boilers and chillers, including all backup and support systems. Provides maintenance, repair, and safety; is a team player.

Position Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains University's steam boiler and chiller systems, as well as all backup and support systems.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the boiler plant.
  • Performs special repair projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Takes and relays messages of all kinds regarding physical plant activities.
  • Assists campus security as a base responder
  • Assists in control of physical plant tool.
  • Maintains security in Power Plant.
  • Performs daily maintenance and cleaning of the facility.
  • Manages work order program.
  • Performs work orders campus-wide as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience

  • Pass test for Boiler Operator's License.
  • Will train.


High school graduate. Formal boiler operation course preferred.

No direct reports.

Physical demands and work environment

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment may require ear protection.

The employee is expected to adhere to all University policies.
