Boiler Operator - Weekends

Position summary

Responsible for shift operation and maintenance of University's stationary steam boilers and chillers, including all backup and support systems.  Provides maintenance, repair, and safety; is a team player. This position is part-time on the weekends.

  • Strong ability to create good will with staff, faculty, and students; servant attitude.
  • Mechanical aptitude; good judgment.
  • Commitment to the Articles of Faith, Mission, and Objectives of the University; and desire to be a role model for students by demonstrating an active Christian faith in personal example and in work related responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Monitors and maintains University's steam boiler and chiller systems, as well as all backup and support systems.
  • Performs special repair projects as assigned by Kevin Lance.
  • Takes and relays messages of all kinds regarding physical plant activities.
  • Assists campus security as a base responder.
  • Assists in control of physical plant tool inventory.
  • Maintains security in Power Plant.
  • Performs daily maintenance and cleaning of facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Pass test for Boiler Operator's License.
  • Will train. 


  • High school graduate.  Formal boiler operation course preferred.

  • No direct reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment:  The noise level in the work environment may require ear protection.
