Graduate Assistant - Creciendo Juntos
Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Creciendo Juntos plays a key role in supporting students’ success in higher education by mentoring the program’s student leadership. This includes working closely with the Executive Student Director and a team of 25 mentors who carry out the program’s mission of empowerment through mentorship, education, and service. In addition to leadership development, the Graduate Assistant helps cultivate community partnerships that expand the program’s impact. The Graduate Assistant will also contribute to building a strong pipeline of college-ready students from elementary through high school. This position is ideal for someone passionate about education, community engagement, and student development, and offers a unique opportunity to foster meaningful growth for both individual students and the organization as a whole.
Time Commitment
This position requires 15 hours per week during the 16-week fall and spring semesters, with no work required in the summer.

Position Responsibilities
- Leadership Development:
- Facilitate monthly workshops to equip student directors and 25 mentors with leadership and peer support skills.
- Provide mentorship to the Executive Student Director on strategic planning and succession, while guiding mentors to leverage their college experiences to inspire others.
- Partnership Building:
- Establish and nurture relationships with schools and community organizations to expand program reach and impact.
- Cultivate sustainable partnerships that support the pipeline’s long-term success.
- Pipeline Program Development:
- Design and implement engaging programs for elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12) students to ignite interest in college and build readiness skills (e.g., interactive K-5 workshops, 6-8 study skills sessions, 9-12 college application preparation).
- Collaborate with the Ambassador Director to align high school programs with recruitment efforts.
- Develop and lead parent workshops focused on college readiness.
- Program Assessment & Refinement:
- Monitor program participation and collect feedback (e.g., surveys) to evaluate effectiveness.
- Analyze data to refine initiatives and deliver concise quarterly updates to the Director.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support program goals and organizational growth.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Ability to design and deliver engaging educational programs tailored to diverse age groups.
- Experience building relationships with external partners, such as schools or community organizations.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a knack for training and motivating others.
- Proficiency in tracking and analyzing program data to drive improvements.
- Competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with data visualization tools or graphic design software is a plus.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Fluency in Spanish to effectively engage with students, families, and community partners from Spanish-speaking backgrounds.
- Prior experience working with multilingual or multicultural student populations is a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Acceptance into a graduate program at John Brown University.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
