The Department of Psychology at John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the integration of Christian faith with psychology to begin by July 1, 2021. Area of teaching and research specialty program are open, with a preference for a background in clinical/counseling or developmental psychology. Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to introductory psychology (with possible honors section), developmental psychology, personality theory, counseling or helping skills class, as well as contributing to a team-taught ‘orientation to the major’ course offered to incoming psychology students each fall semester. Additional opportunities to design/develop coursework in one’s area of expertise or specialization for the ‘selected topics’ rotation of courses in the department. Other responsibilities include academic advising and mentoring students, recruiting for the major, and service on university committees.


The Department of Psychology resides within the College of Education and Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology. The department has three faculty members with more than 140 majors (including over 70 in an associated online program). We are excited to welcome a new colleague who can add significantly with their teaching and scholarship to a growing department that fosters the advancement of our graduates who serve in a wide variety of professional and human service vocations.


A doctoral degree in Psychology is required. Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential. Candidates are preferred who have significant and successful teaching experience at the college level as demonstrated by student achievement and references given.  ABD candidates will also be considered.
