John Brown University seeks a full-time nursing faculty member beginning in the fall of 2021. The immediate responsibilities of the qualified applicant will include teaching Foundations of Nursing Practice and Health Assessment in the classroom and clinical setting.  Responsibilities include teaching in the classroom, laboratories, and clinical agencies.  Teaching duties and courses are determined by the needs of the department and faculty experience and/or area(s) of expertise.  Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to advising and recruitment of students, participation in departmental governance, attendance and participation at public events, as appropriate, and service on college and university committees.

Position Responsibilities

  • With input from appropriate team members, develop, evaluate, and revise course syllabi and materials on a regular basis. 
  • Demonstrate competency in general nursing practice and within a specialty area of nursing.
  • Perform the duties of teaching, including preparation and planning, updating materials as needed, and facilitating active assignments for students. 
  • Grade student assignments promptly to ensure timely feedback to students.  Report grades promptly. 
  • Maintain posted office hours and be available to meet with students for advising, academic assistance, or personal/spiritual development.
  • Identify and encourage student academic leadership in the department and maintain an active interest in advising students in graduate and vocational opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clinical agencies/units as assigned.  Be familiar with and comply with agency policies and procedures. 
  • Respond appropriately to directives from administrators.
  • Develop a professional faculty growth plan; evaluate, revise, and update annually.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings and assigned committee meetings within the college and university.
  • Encourage and support spiritual growth in students.  Emphasize the integration of faith, learning, and living--both inside and outside the classroom.
  • May be involved and have some role in the responsibility/leadership/mentoring of student organizations.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrate evidence of scholarly potential; membership and active participation in professional nursing organizations.
  • A minimum of 3 years nursing practice experience, with previous academic experience preferred. 
  • Hold (or be eligible for) an unencumbered license in the state of Arkansas.


Hold an earned master’s degree in nursing, terminal degree in nursing or related field preferred.
