Position

John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member in Chemistry to begin July 1, 2018. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching undergraduate courses and associated laboratories in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and General Science for science and non-science majors, as well as mentoring students in research.  Candidates should also be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the major, and committee service.

Program

The Department of Chemistry offers courses emphasizing fundamental principles that provide a strong basis for understanding the physical world while also assisting in the development of critical, analytical, and laboratory skills. It is housed within the Division of Natural Science in the William H. Bell Science Hall, which opened in 2003. The Division offers Bachelor of Science Degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and mathematics, and works in conjunction with the Education Department to offer a Bachelor of Science in Education with secondary certification in mathematics. Courses in the Division also support majors in engineering, construction management, nursing, and elementary education.

Qualifications

Doctorate in Chemistry preferred; minimum of Master’s degree required.  Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential.  A passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is required.

Salary

A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.
