Coronavirus FAQ

Work-Study Questions

Can work-study students continue to work this weekend and through Friday, Mar. 20?
Effective immediately, all student employees should not be working on campus, except for those departments that have been approved by Cabinet.  The supervisors of those department will communicate with their student employees.

What will happen to work-study positions and earnings?
If students are able to continue their work-study positions remotely, such as a TA, they can continue to work and submit hours and receive payment as normal. Additional security acknowledgements may be required, so please contact the work-study coordinator (workstudy@jbu.edu) for more information.

For those approved departments with Cabinet approval mentioned above, local students who have not traveled outside of Northwest Arkansas, effective immediately, may on an exception basis, continue working with approval of their supervisors and the work-study coordinator. There may be some opportunities to change work-study positions as needed by the university for essential services. For students who have traveled over spring break, the university will consider resuming them in the work-study program after 14 symptom-free days.

The university may have additional nonwork-study student positions available for essential services. If local students are interested, please contact the work-study coordinator at workstudy@jbu.edu.

What happens if students can’t complete the minimum work-study hours?

If a student has been fulfilling their work-study hours so far this semester, the minimum hour requirement for continued work-study eligibility will be waived. Students will not lose work-study eligibility for next fall due to reduced hours as part of the measures taken by the university in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

What happens if students are unable to fulfill their work-study position and need their earnings to pay their student account balance at JBU?
JBU will apply the expected spring work-study funds to your student account for your spring balance. In order to take advantage of this, you MUST have authorized JBU to apply payments directly to your account. If you have not previously done so, or are unsure, please contact HR at askHR@jbu.edu to complete the necessary authorization.

If the expected spring work-study funds create a refund status on your account, no refunds for unearned work-study wages will be issued.

This process will happen after the university makes any adjustments to room and board.

What if students use work-study funds for living expenses that do not appear on their JBU student account balance?
Please contact the work-study coordinator (workstudy@jbu.edu) for consideration of payment of expected spring work-study funds for approved expenditures.
