This scholarship was created by friends of the university, Charles and Lona Whinrey. The Whinreys lived in California. They wanted to help students gain a college education. Charles and Lona created this scholarship before their deaths and added to the scholarship through their estate plan. Charles passed away in 2001, and Lona in 2003.
