Established: 2007
This scholarship was created in memory of Norma McQueen. Robert Sheridan, JBU class of 1954, had space in a small shopping center in Michigan that he allowed Norma to use so that she could teach art classes. During that time, Norma was able to convince Robert to take part in her classes, and he discovered and developed an artistic ability that he wasn’t aware existed. Norma became his mentor. After retiring, Norma managed his Art Gallery in Garden City, Michigan.
Norma was active in a group called “Women of Artistry,” which is why this scholarship is awarded to women students. When Norma died in 2003, her daughter, Joyce Wasilewski, and Robert felt that creating a scholarship with Norma’s personal savings would be a great way to honor Norma’s memory.
