Federal Direct Student Loan

Subsidized & Unsubsidized Direct Loans

There are two forms of the Federal Direct Student Loan:

  • Subsidized – This loan does not accrue interest while you're in school and is awarded based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
  • Unsubsidized – This loan does accrue interest while you're in school and is not awarded based on need.

Payments for both types of loans are deferred while you're in school. When the you graduate or drop below half-time status, you have a six-month "grace period" before starting repayment. These loans have a fixed interest rate of 5.05% for 2018-2019. Graduate unsubsidized loans had a fixed interest rate of 6% for 2018-2019.

Fees are 1.062% of the principal loan amount.

**Please complete only the master promissory note (MPN) for subsidized/unsubsidized Direct Loans whether you are a traditional undergraduate, online or graduate student. 

These forms will be good for the entire time that you are enrolled at JBU.
