Rev. Dr. James Choung serves as Vice President of Strategy & Innovation at InterVarsity Christian Fellowship USA, overseeing evangelism, discipleship, planting, growth, missions, and multiethnic initiatives. He is the author of True Story: A Christianity Worth Believing In and Real Life: A Christianity Worth Living Out. He received his D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and has had his work featured in Christianity Today, Leadership Journal, Outreach Magazine, and exploregod.com. His visit is funded by an endowment from the Thomas F. Staley Foundation.

John Brown III

John E. Brown, III, grandson of JBU's founder, served as the university's third president from 1979 to 1993. He received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from JBU in 1971 and a J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1974. He served two terms as a senator in the Arkansas Legislature from 1995 to 2002, and as the executive director of the Windgate Charitable Foundation from July 1993 to June 2018. He and his wife Stephania have five married children and twelve grandchildren.

Joshua Straub, Ph.D., is a speaker, author, and family and leadership coach. He leads Famous at Home, a company equipping leaders, organizations, military families, and churches in emotional intelligence and family wellness. Josh is author/coauthor of four books including Safe House: How Emotional Safety is the Key to Raising Kids Who Live, Love, and Lead Well. Josh comes as a guest of the Center for Healthy Relationships at JBU.

Humanities Convocation: Jeremy Seifert

Jeremy Seifert, a ’99 JBU alumnus, is a documentary filmmaker best known for his feature films GMO OMG and DIVE! Living Off America’s Waste. His most recent feature film was selected as a Sundance Catalyst film and is currently in production. He has won over 30 awards at festivals around the world, including Best Documentary at the Environmental Media Awards.

Reimagining Faith and Public Life: Jemar Tisby

Jemar Tisby is the president of The Witness: A Black Christian Collective, where he writes about race, religion, and culture.  He is also the co-host of the Pass the Mic podcast. His first book, The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism, was released earlier this year.  He received his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary and is a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Mississippi.

Ross Wilson

Ross Wilson

(October 31)

Ross Wilson is one of Ireland's leading artists and sculptors, and a regular lecturer to JBU students in the Irish Study Abroad program. Among his many noted commissions are the C.S. Lewis Centenary Sculpture in East Belfast and a portrait of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney for the National Portrait Gallery in London. His work is featured in collections worldwide including Tate Britain, The British Museum, and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. Ross believes strongly in community outreach through creativity and education. He was recently honored by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, receiving a British Empire Medal for his charity and outreach work.

World Awareness Week: Sarita Edwards

Sarita D. Edwards, Ph.D., is an associate professor of religion at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. She served as a missionary with CRC Churches International in Papua New Guinea and Australia, and teaches in the areas of biblical theology, intercultural studies, world religions, and world Christianity. Sarita’s most recent book, Breaking through the Boundaries: God’s Mission from the Outside In, will be published this fall.
