Is chapel attendance required?

Chapel is an essential part of fulfilling JBU’s mission of providing Christ-centered higher education to our students. Therefore, attendance is mandatory.

  • All full-time students (12 hours or more) and residential (on-campus) students are required to attend a minimum of 21 chapels per semester.
  • At least 15 of those must be weekday “regular” chapels (generally Tuesdays and Thursdays). The remaining six (6) requirements may be any combination of regular chapels and/or services that are designated as “additional” chapel events, such as The Gathering (Sunday night student-led chapel) and other forums approved by the Office of Christian Formation.

What is the chapel schedule?

Chapel services are held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and include messages from JBU faculty and staff and guest speakers from the evangelical community.

Additional chapel opportunities include the student-led Gathering services, Vespers and other special events.

Altogether, there are roughly 40 opportunities to earn chapel credit each semester.
