Dr. Nick Cornett holds licenses as a marriage and family therapist and professional counselor in the state of Arkansas. He is also a registered play therapist with the Association for Play Therapy and a certified facilitator of the premarital and marriage enrichment program, PREPARE/ENRICH.

Dr. Cornett received a B.S. with honors in Psychology and a M.S. in Community Counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from John Brown University.  He then pursued and obtained his Ph.D. in Counseling with a specialty in couple and family counseling from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.

While at the University of North Texas, Dr. Cornett obtained extensive training, supervision, and practice in working therapeutically with young children and their families through the use of play therapy, filial therapy, and other play-based approaches.  The University of North Texas, and its Center for Play Therapy, is considered to be the premier play therapy training program in the world, and his experience in this setting developed his passion for working with children and families through play therapy approaches.

Dr. Cornett has practiced individual, couple, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings, including community counseling clinics serving children, adolescents, adults, and their families; residential treatment and day-treatment centers for children and adolescents; public schools; student counseling centers for university students; a shelter for runaway and homeless adolescents; and a clinic serving children and families court-ordered to receive therapeutic services.  In addition, he has significant training and experience in conducting psychoeducational assessments with children in order to identify possible mental, emotional, behavioral, and social issues that may be interfering with their functioning.  Dr. Cornett also has a passion for educating professional helpers and the general public on topics related to children, couples, and families and the importance of building and enriching our relationships with others.  He aspires to engage others through teaching that is practical and meaningful, incorporating real-life stories, illustrations, exercises, and the latest research in order to inform and to inspire.

Dr. Cornett is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, the Association for Play Therapy, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.  

Dr. Cornett is originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he met his high-school sweetheart who is now his wife, Kim.  They welcomed their daughter, Evie, into their family in March of 2012 and are enjoying the blessing that she is in their lives.
